03:10 pm - I believe in a thing called love... First off, has everyone had a chance to hear The Darkness? For the love of cake, if you haven't, avoid everything and do so straight away. Better yet, go to the website and watch the videos. All at once, they are absurd, ridiculous, annoying, silly, wonderful, fantastic, and (dare I say it?) smile-tastic. The music brings back memories of my favorite classic rock band (and indeed, one of my all-time favorite bands) Boston, and the vocals...well...the vocals. I swear, The Darkness would probably be one of my favorite bands if dude would just shut his damn mouth. He sings as if he were Freddy Mercury trying to perform a Shakespeare rock opera whilst being kicked in the most uncomfortable area to be kicked in.
...so why can't I stop listening to them?
Anyways, I'm STILL without a computer, but not for long. I finally have a motherboard on its way to my house (NVIDIA nForce 2, no less!), and I just had a new case overnighted to me from NewEgg. The case? The backbone of my new system. Specifically, the newest award-winning Thermaltake Xaser III case...
( Geeky case specs... )
I can't wait for that shit!
Anyway, I need a name for the new comp. I was just gonna call it 'Cerebro II, he who rose from the ashes of Cerebro I', but I think that name may be a tad too long...so, if anyone has any suggestions, they would be most welcome. The theme this time around is lots of blue, and skulls. Skulls? Well, the Xaser case is part of the Skull series, so I'm going with that.
Any suggestions?

01:14 pm - One...more...mission... Well, it's my birthday...
Last night I read the Lord of the Rings until it was about 3 in the morning, then my addiction overcame me. I know now that I have a problem. The mere statement that I know I have a problem gets me through the first step to recovery. That's right, I've become a slave to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Do NOT let anyone you love near this thing, it will comsume their life.
I played that until I almost fell asleep. I woke up, and as always, it was freezing in my room. Let's hear it for no heating or air! I quickly remedied the problem with my Spongebob (speaking of Spongebob, WATCH THIS RIGHT NOW!!!) socks that I got for Christmas, and the new Venom shirt I got for my birthday.
I jump online quickly to check geeky news updates, and Happy Birthday to me! I discover that the Muppet Wizard of Oz is on the way! Sadly, it's going straight to TV, but that's cool as long as I get a DVD of it. Natalie Portman is rumored to be playing Dorothy, which rocks the house, but my favorite bit of casting is Pepe the Prawn as Toto. YAY!
Fantasy books, late-night video games, Spongebob socks, comic book shirts, and Muppet movies...
...so why don't I feel 20?

Quite a bit to look forward to, huh? Also, as an update, I'm still working in the Dark Ages, as I've not repaired my computer yet. It's got a fried motherboard though, so at least I know what's wrong with it now...

Well, my birthday is a week from tomorrow, on the 27th. Of course, since you all love me so much, and are just dying to know what you can get me, I might as well let you get me something really expensive.
So you folks can go ahead and get me this. It's the least you could do.

P.S. Seriously though, I'm only joking. I know it's out of stock.

02:39 pm - N.F.L.!!! NICE FUCKING LIFE!!!

Anthrax...FUCKING ANTHRAX!!!
They kicked everyone's ass last night. I had a blast. Squirrelmaster did too, although he's not the biggest 'Thrax fan in the world...
Anyway, after waiting in the cold cold cold cold air outside Blue Cat's for what seemed like hours, we were finally let inside where we bought gear. I got one of the tour shirts and the Scott Ian pack with signed stickers and guitar picks.
After about another half-hour, Shadowwax started playing. They weren't bad, but I wasn't really impressed. Sort of a mix between Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Godsmack.
After SW, Straight Line Stitch took the stage and proceeded to throw out merch to the crowd, which they continued to do throughout the whole set. SLS was fucking hardcore, and it seemed to me to be mainly influenced by Shadows Fall...which is a good thing. Blue Cat's should take down the 'No Moshing' sign immediately because nobody at all payed any attention to it whatsoever. I got bashed in the head one good time, and I called it quits. Hey, I have to work today anyway...
After what seemed like hours of soundcheck hearing this goon say 'Hey Hey! Yeah yeah! 1, 2...3, 4...5, 6...7...8' over and over and over again, it was finally time for Anthrax.
Blasting into the first song (What Doesn't Die) after the intro, the pit turned into pure mayhem, and the only thing keeping me upright was holding onto Squirrelmaster's hoodie. After finding the nearest spot out of the pit, the show was enjoyed pain-free. 'Thrax played all the classics too: Got the Time, Trapped in a Box, N.F.L., Inside Out, Safe Home, Antisocial, Madhouse, Nobody Knows, and others. The encore finished things off with a frantic version of Bring the Noise (sans Public Enemy) that got the entire crowd screaming and acting like maniacs.
All in all, it was the best show I've ever seen. John Bush knows how to work a crowd, Scott Ian and Frank Bello are always maniacs, Rob Caggiano lets the guitars do the talking, and Charlie Benante may be the best damn drummer on the planet (Listen to 'Nobody Knows' for proof)!
Got home, put in a new hard drive for my computer, and it still doesn't fucking work. Oh well, I'll think of something. Catch ya later!

06:08 pm - Into the West If ya didn't know, the Return of the King soundtrack is out now. As your attourney, I suggest you purchase it as soon as possible. Annie Lennox sings 'Into the West,' which is my favorite song on the soundtrack, and might be the best of the three vocal-driven songs from the trilogy (Enya's 'May it Be', and my current favorite 'Gollum's Song' by Emil'ana Torrini).
Annie Lennox and Howard Shore - Into the West
Lay down your sweet and weary head Night is falling, you have come to journey's end. Sleep now, and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling from across the distant shore.
Why do weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see all of your fears will pass away, safe in my arms you're only sleeping.
What can you see on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea a pale moon rises -- The ships have come to carry you home.
Dawn will turn to silver glass A light on the water All souls pass.
Hope fades into the world of night through shadows falling out of memory and time. Don't say, "We have come now to the end." White shores are calling you and I will meet again.
And you'll be here in my arms Just sleeping.
What can can you see on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea a pale moon rises -- The ships have come to carry you home.
And all will turn to silver glass A light on the water Grey ships pass Into the west.

12:15 pm - Brains... I'm updating this thing from my mom's computer, as mine deceased sometime last night. It'll turn on, the lights will be on, but nothing shows up on the monitor. In fact the monitor won't get out of sleep mode.
I tried to turn it off, but it just immediately kicks itself back on again. When i got home, there was an illegal operation of Win32 on the screen just before it died. Anyone know anything I can do to get it out of its zombie state?
Oh well...I'll think of something...

04:11 pm - If I were a rich man... I was playing around last night on the Wacom, and did a self portrait. It's not what I set out to do, but once I get started, it tends to finish itself. When I start drawing something, I tend to listen to one song over and over again. Don't ask me why, I have no clue. Anyway, when the drawing's done, I can look at it and be reminded of that song. It's weird, I know, but that's just me. This one's Norah Jones' 'Come Away With Me'. Damn good song.
Anyway, tomorrow will be a very good day indeed. I would say that it was because Pirates of the Caribbean comes out tomorrow, but I already have that thanks to a visit to Sam Goody's out west Knoxville way. No, it's because I get a certain piece of mail from a certain casino on a certain indian reservation of a certain indian tribe that I'm certainly enrolled in. I'm not gonna say how much kick-back the Cherokee get from Harrah's, but let's just say that I'll be making a trip to Best Buy, and the Alien Quadrilogy and Johnny Cash: Unearthed are on my list...
Oh yeah, and said self portrait:
I'm never happy with my self portraits, and I'm not happy with this one, but oh well...I was just playing around anyway.

02:27 pm - BIG 72!!! Well I'm back from Atlanta, folks. Damn, did it get cold up here whilst I was gone! To make the last day and a half, mix one part angry, two parts happy, 3 parts bored, 4 parts sleeping, and 5 parts thoughtful. That's about it. I had a lot of fun with my brother-in-law downloading things on his dial-up modem, and randomly shouting the percentage that had been downloaded. I actually had a lot of fun with my sister...never thought I'd say that...and the rest of the family were either boring, or morons.
My mom outlawed politics the whole time we were there, but me and my uncle (vietnam war vet uncle) got into a pretty big fight about that fucking goon we have for a president and this war he's insane about. Everyone thought it was a great thing that Bush flew Air Force One into Iraq secretly to visit with troops on Thanksgiving. 'Great,' I said. 'That's pretty cool of him.'
...but me and my big mouth wouldn't stop there, would it?
'Of course, I'm sure that the troops would MUCH rather be at home. With their families. On Thanksgiving. NOT being shot at in a foreign country so people back home can pump oil into their SUVs.'
Dammit. Why did I have to say that. In the midst of the debate that insued, my uncle had the unmidigated gall to say (OUT OF HIS MOUTH!) to me that 'it isn't just so that we can have the oil to use as fuel...he who controls the oil, controls the world. Isn't that worth fighting for?'
Control the world. CONTROL...THE...WORLD!!!
There, I made myself angry again. Oh well, it feels better to be back home...not for long, though. I have to close the store tonight...on Black Friday...After being in Pigeon Forge traffic for so long, I can only imagine the horrors that I will have to face...Wish me well...

02:02 am - Song of Soloman... I can't sleep. Fuck, it's always when I need to sleep that I can't. I have a big day tomorrow. I have to get up at 7...shit, it's already 2...anyway, I have to go to Atlanta in a few hours for Thanksgiving (while we're at it, Happy Thanksgiving to you all!). I guess it's ok, because I'll sleep most of the way there anyway. I know why I can't sleep, but I don't really want to get into it, it's stupid anyway.
The insomnia's given me a chance to finish up Blankets. If you're a fan of indie comics, love stories, fantastic art, and even greater writing, then there is no amount of urging I could do to get you to read this book. It's thick, but it's a very fast read, and it's incredible. As I finished it (whilst listening to Miles Davis' Blue in Green), I almost cried. I don't really know what I was feeling at the time, the story stirs up a lot of different emotions. Love, alienation, loss, sadness, and loneliness all got caught up at once. Graphic novels don't usually do that to me. Read Blankets at all costs. It may be one of the most important graphic novels of all time.

02:45 pm *Sorry for this rant, folks. But I've seen so much of this lately, that it's making me angry. I'll make it short...*
Some people in this world think so highly of themselves, it makes me sick. I mean, self esteem is one thing, but some people seem to be under the impression that everyone should just fall all over themselves to do their bidding. Everyone should just give them 110% of their attention and love. These people don't deserve it. Humility is a virtue few people have.
Regardless of whose reading this, you're no better than me, just as I am no better than you. We are all made up of the same complex array of atoms and molecules, bones, sinew, and skin. We are all the same animal. The same creature. No one is superior to anyone else. In the grand scheme of things, we all are born, and we all die. That's it. Don't waste your time trying to be so much better than the rest. Aspire, yes. By all means, live your life. For God's sake, help others when you can, and have as much fun as possible. Do things you like to do. When bad times come by, get through them. Afterwards, leave them in the past. Don't dwell on the past, the future will run you over. Believe me, I should practice what I preach, and I will try my best. Still, I hope certain people see this and think to themselves for awhile. Get off of your damn high horse, or sooner or later, you will fall. In the words of Tyler Durden:
You are not your job. You are not how much you have in the bank. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fucking Khakis. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world. You are not special. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.
End rant.
